As its title suggests, sculptor Kari Juva’s outdoor sculpture Working to Build Turku celebrates work and workers. Seven male figures stand close together, holding their tools and representing different working-class occupations. The abstract, anonymous figures cannot be associated with any particular period or setting. Instead, they can be seen as part of the timeless continuity of work.

Above the figures is a massive, undulating element resembling a large banner. It can be interpreted as a reference to the traditions of the labour movement and to the way in which work grows into something greater than the individual carrying it out.
