Sakki Terho: Torch

Torch

The upward-reaching Torch is a fountain sculpture enhanced by water and lighting effects. It consists of three upright, wing-like elements.

Installed in Independence Square, the work symbolises the torch of independence for the artist, with jets of water forming its flames. In addition to the political meanings conveyed by the original name of its location, Torch can also be interpreted as a symbol of artistic freedom and of the Enlightenment idea that knowledge has the power to spread light.
