In sculptor Miina Äkkijyrkkä’s work Sweet Yellow Melon, a heavy material, steel, is combined with a subject central to the artist’s work: a calf of the Eastern Finncattle breed.

Steel beams usually associated with industrial settings form a delicate depiction of a calf tentatively finding its feet. In Äkkijyrkkä’s work, the calf represents freedom and curiosity, among other values and qualities that the library also promotes through its activities.

The sunny yellow work evokes the beginning of a new life and a life-affirming energy.

The title refers to the colour of the surface treatment: Tikkurila’s RAL 1028 Melon Yellow.
