The work depicts a real event: General of Infantry Adolf Ehrnrooth inspecting his regiment, JR 7, on the Karelian Isthmus on 4 June 1944. The major Soviet offensive on the isthmus began a few days after the inspection.

The relief portrays the general as a leader who cared for his soldiers and took responsibility for their welfare. The work was created by Kuopio-based artist and war veteran Herman Joutsen.
