Sailo Nina

1985 bronze

Turun kaupungin taidekokoelma

Tuomaanpuisto

The sculpture, erected by the Turku Region Lotta Heritage Association, is a cast of a work originally created by Nina Sailo in 1985. The original statue is located in Lappeenranta.

Nearly a quarter of a million Finnish women served their country through the Lotta Svärd organisation between 1921 and 1944.

Turku’s cityscape contains several war memorials, but Sailo’s sculpture is the city’s only work of public art devoted exclusively to women’s contributions.
