Kühn Achim: Harmony

Italian-born artist Achim Kühn’s sculpture Harmony is a clear example of how the natural environment, modern technology and artistic imagination can be combined. The scales on the tail fin were treated electrolytically using an electric current, creating a complex, glossy surface rich in colour and nuance.

The sculpture is illuminated during the darker months and functions as a fountain from May to October, when the water is free of ice. Its pedestal incorporates the foundations of a former harbour crane. Through both its subject and its location, the sculpture refers to Turku’s maritime history.
