Aaltonen Wäinö: Future

Future

Aaltonen Wäinö

1928–1932 bronze

Turun kaupungin taidekokoelma

WAM ulkoterassi

Wäinö Aaltonen’s sculpture Future is one of the twin casts of the works in the series Work and the Future in the plenary chamber of the Parliament Building. Together with Intellectual Work and Settler, Future has stood on the terrace in front of WAM Museum of Contemporary Art since 1978.

The only female figure in the sculpture series holds a small child in her arms and raises one hand in greeting. In the plenary hall, the female figure is positioned with her back to the room to emphasise the child’s significance as a source of strength for the nation’s future.
