The Fibonacci sequence glows in the work by Italian artist Mario Merz, who was associated with the Arte Povera movement. In this sequence, each number is the sum of the two preceding numbers.

The sequence has many distinctive properties. When represented geometrically, for example, it forms a spiral found in many natural forms, such as seashells.

The golden ratio, which in Western visual art is used as a measure of harmony and proportion and as a standard for a particular concept of beauty, is also based on this sequence.
