Helenius Simo: Cat Kallu

Cat Kallu

Helenius Simo

Turun kaupungin taidekokoelma

Vanha Hämeentie 1

The sculpture was modelled on Karl Georg Lemberg, a well-known local character who lived in Nummenpakka and was known as Kissa-Kallu, or Cat Kallu. The legacy of this solitary man, who lived a secluded life, was important to local residents, and the idea of erecting an outdoor sculpture in his memory emerged in the 1980s. The necessary funds were raised through a public collection.

According to the story, the cats recognised Kallu from a distance when he approached carrying his bag of scrap and milk churn.
