Artist Micha Ullman’s environmental artwork North draws attention to the history of its location. A shipyard once stood on the site, and the granite elements of varying heights can be interpreted as a reference to the piles anchored in the ground and used in shipbuilding.

The components have been arranged in a formation suggesting the keel of an imaginary ship, creating a memorial to the vessels that sailed from the harbour to the world’s oceans.

The stone blocks also provide seating for people walking along the riverbank, while the space they create can be used for various music and dance performances.
