Sculptor Maarit Nissilä’s work Strong was erected to honour the life’s work of building contractor and construction technology pioneer Armas Puolimatka. Puolimatka was known as a determined businessman, which is reflected in the memorial’s title, visual language and materials.

In keeping with the industry in which Puolimatka worked, the sculpture is constructed from precast concrete elements. Its structure is characterised by sharp angles and large architectural surfaces. The rising form can be perceived as highly simplified human figures twice life size, but also as massive industrial structures.
