Sculptor Maarit Nissilä’s bronze sculpture Along the Way refers to the history of the Vähäheikkilä district. The area was once inhabited by cottagers and contained inns where travellers who did not know one another could meet and form new connections.
The work is symbolically positioned at a crossroads. Two abstract, Cubist-style figures sit beside one another on a bench, facing each other. The sculpture can be interpreted as a depiction of human encounters, as well as a meeting point between older and newer artistic traditions.
