Mäkinen Viljo: Korppu-Vihtori

Korppu-Vihtori

Mäkinen Viljo

1981–1983 red granite

Turun kaupungin taidekokoelma

Kallelankatu 3

The sculpture was modelled on Frans Viktor Galenius (1870–1930), who was known as Korppu-Vihtori (Rusk-Viktor). He travelled around the Salo region and once sold rusks in Turku, carrying them to the city in a basket on his back.

Korppu-Vihtori was known for his affection for children. Every May Day, children from the neighbouring daycare place a student cap on the sculpture in his honour.
