Louhisto Antti: A statue of friendship between Leningrad and Turku

A statue of friendship between Leningrad and Turku

Louhisto Antti

1967–1969 bronze

Turun kaupungin taidekokoelma

Puolalanpuisto

The sculpture celebrates the friendship between Turku and Leningrad, now St Petersburg. St Petersburg is Turku’s oldest twin city, and the twinning relationship was established in 1953.

In the work, four highly stylised bronze human figures greet and embrace one another in a warm and intimate circle. The figures convey a sense of community, closeness and friendship between cities and people.
